We don't list updates on this page since it's not the main page anymore... so check those links to the right!

March 7, 2007

Two things... we have a new front-page for the site, and LotFP proofreader Garth Ferrante has conducted a big interview with LotFP founder/publisher/editor/webmaster/writer Jim Raggi (me!)... read it here.

January 26, 2007

December 29, 2006

An interview with Chris Black of Superchrist is now online. Read it here!

December 28, 2006

How time flies. No updates for three weeks? Anyway, most of the work being done is for the next print issue, which is so big we want more people to read it. Click on that big black banner up top. I'm told there are a few things in the works for the web as well so hopefully there will be more new material to read here before too long. I suspect we'll have more material for the next print issue than we can use, and that'll go up here as well. And apparently something weird happened to the site, but just the index file. Weird! Fixed now.

December 5, 2006

Here's another article on today's heavy metal scene. Read The Ghosts of Glam Metal Past here!

December 3, 2006

Reverend Bizarre, Minotauri, and Spiritus Mortis played Turku last night, and LotFP was there! See our PHOTO and SILLY COMMENT report here!

November 28, 2006

We're still at least a month, perhaps two, away from LotFP: The Shameless (the first issue of the LotFP 2007 Quintology) being published. Available only in print! But its contents are coming together nicely. What we've got:

  • Interview with Ben and PJ of Twilight Odyssey. This will be 5+ pages, just might hit 10.
  • Columns
  • More reviews than have appeared in an issue of LotFP in a long time...
We're all about the unsigned and the small-label this time around, and it will be 100% heavy metal, 100% critical, and 100% ad free. We can't do the cover until we get another serious snowfall, but we hope to have that ready to show you all in a couple weeks. The interview transcriptions for the website (noted below, several times) will probably have to wait until winter break as well... between studies, work on the print edition, and work on the other writing project (whose website is down down down right now, argh) there's just no patience for the ol' "play... type... rewind... play... type" routine. Sorry for those waiting...

November 23, 2006

Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans! Anyway, I still haven't done *anything* as far as what I'm supposed to do (see last "update"), but I have done something that nobody was waiting for because they didn't know it existed. I have uploaded what I can only call a "lost issue" of LotFP, from 04-05. You'll see why it never saw the light of day before now. Read the pdf here.

November 11, 2006

Just an update to tell you that I haven't done jack shit this past week doing LotFP work like I should. Soulfallen interview, not transcribed. Fall of the Idols interview, not transcribed, nor follow-up questions sent. Wuthering Heights interview, not transcribed. Yeah, we're slow. It'll get done sometime soon though. Anyway, go order the Quintology. Incoming orders inspire me.

November 5, 2006

The review of Scald's Vermiculatus, published in LotFP #66, is now online here!

November 2, 2006

We have one interview in the can (Finland's Soulfallen) and another half-in-the-can (Finland's Fall of the Idols). One just needs typing up, the other needs followup questions sent. We're slow.

LotFP's 2007 Print Schedule:

The Shameless: Reviews of Unsigned and Small-Label bands...
The Timeless: Special project!
The Nameless: Coverage of music based on HP Lovecraft, his peers, and his influences.
The Skinless: An issue dedicated to GORE METAL bands past and present!
The Godless: An issue dedicated to those bands whose sole focus is religion. Whether the band is Christian, Muslim, Satanic, atheist, Hindu, Buddhist... doesn't matter.

We are looking for submissions for The Shameless, The Nameless, the Skinless, and the Godless.

False Metal: The Financial and Farcical Return of Heavy Metal

False Metal is an extensive look at the publicity machine that controls the popularity of heavy metal. From Black Sabbath and the dawn of heavy metal to the cover of today's glossy heavy metal magazines, False Metal uncovers the layers of propaganda, secrecy and misdirection to find out what is going on behind closed doors. By examining the evidence gathered from over 175 sources, the truth is revealed: The financial health of heavy metal is controlled by people with no regard for the music or its fans. False Metal is required reading for everyone who believes in the integrity of heavy metal.

False Metal features investigations of The Sword (including behind-the-scenes details of their mass media exposure), Decibel magazine (and the business practices of its parent company), Avenged Sevenfold, Dragonforce, Dave Grohl's Probot, The Darkness, Spinal Tap, "retro metal", and more.

Read the html version here.

Right-click and save the pdf version here.

King Fowley of Deceased and October 31 has answered One Hundred Questions for LotFP! Read that here. We've also got the 2003 Agent Steel interview up on the new site here. March 4, 2006

"Who are these people?" It's disturbing how many comments/complaints I've gotten about presenting a litter of interviews with bands that people aren't familiar with. Re-read Scum. Re-read Impure Metal. Did you think we were kidding? LotFP seeks to focus on small-label bands and unsigned bands. Especially unsigned bands selling their own professionally pressed recordings. If a more famous band on a bigger heavy metal label cooperates with us, great. But if you are with us in saying "Yeah, screw the man!", you should be willing to read articles about bands that are outside of commercial circles. LotFP isn't just about being against everything. Sometimes, we are for something.

March 3, 2006

Fifteen new interviews have been added to the site.

Everything should work on this site except for some formatting and message board links within individual reviews. If you see something wrong anywhere else, let us know so we can fix it.

The Shameless is out!:

  • Twilight Odyssey interview
  • Columns by Burns and Raggi
  • Dozens of Reviews
  • 41,000 words of metal!
